The Wood Maintenance Myth

Someone probably told you that real wood decks were hard to maintain.

They were wrong.

Wood is a natural product and, as such, does require a little TLC from time to time. Here’s the reality about maintaining your real wood deck:

Once a year:

  • inspect the board for damage such as splitting, warping and checking.
  • check each fastener to be sure they’re not coming loose.

As needed:

  • clean your deck with an appropriate washing solution. A good test? Pour a cup of water on your deck. If the water sinks in quickly, it’s probably time to reapply a sealant.
  • reapply a water repellant, sealer or stain.

See how easy that is?
